Private ADHD Titration

There is a current national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

Our service can provide private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, as well as an evaluation using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination, you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed at your follow up appointment (which can be done in person via video link or by telephone). Your physician will go over the different options for medication available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which could take a few weeks. It involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It's not uncommon to need to adjust three or four medications before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential that parents participate in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior, so they can inform the doctor if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be given as a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. Typically, the appointment will take place through a video call using zoom but in certain circumstances it may be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an additional cost).

We will then go over the options for treatment and then decide on the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication adjustment. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage and a discussion around any negative side effects you may be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any charges for medication.

The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history, the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you may be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, which is why it's crucial to examine your family history to determine if you're at chance of developing this condition.

It is essential that you are honest and truthful to the doctor during the assessment, since the information they gather will be used to determine if your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an essential step in the process, since a failure to do so could result in an incorrect diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD, we'll arrange an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this area. We suggest that if you are unsure about your preferences, you speak to your GP prior to scheduling your private adhd medication titration appointment. Some providers have different policies on whether or not they require the submission of a GP letter. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for prescription medication.

Medication
