Private ADHD Titration
There is a current national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.
Our service can provide private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.
Titration
A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, as well as an evaluation using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.
After your examination, you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed at your follow up appointment (which can be done in person via video link or by telephone). Your physician will go over the different options for medication available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.
This is a process which could take a few weeks. It involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It's not uncommon to need to adjust three or four medications before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential that parents participate in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior, so they can inform the doctor if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.
If you decide to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be given as a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.
Follow-up appointments
After the assessment is complete and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. Typically, the appointment will take place through a video call using zoom but in certain circumstances it may be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an additional cost).
We will then go over the options for treatment and then decide on the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication adjustment. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage and a discussion around any negative side effects you may be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any charges for medication.
The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history, the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you may be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, which is why it's crucial to examine your family history to determine if you're at chance of developing this condition.
It is essential that you are honest and truthful to the doctor during the assessment, since the information they gather will be used to determine if your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an essential step in the process, since a failure to do so could result in an incorrect diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.
If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD, we'll arrange an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this area. If you'd like to start treatment right away you can start treatment when you are diagnosed. You can also take two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.
We suggest that if you are unsure about your preferences, you speak to your GP prior to scheduling your private adhd medication titration appointment. Some providers have different policies on whether or not they require the submission of a GP letter. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for prescription medication.
Medication
The medication process is an essential part of the journey for many people who are seeking a private adhd medication titration diagnosis. It can be difficult to get a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.
One method to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that offers a private assessment service and titration adhd medication. This will help you to save time and also be more convenient, especially if you have a busy schedule.
Once you have been recommended by this method your chosen doctor will assess you and decide whether or not you're required to be titrated on medication. You'll have to complete forms that are different for each provider, but the most common ones are self-reporting questionnaires and medical histories that go to childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor determine any issues that could suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.
If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. They will be assessed and monitored to determine the best combination for you. The titration procedure can be a lengthy process and may require several extra appointments before you are stable.
The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and quantity of medication you're taking. They can be scheduled for monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check whether you are safe with the medication, note any adverse reactions you have experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a safe dose. You'll also have to attend a regular health check that may include blood pressure and pulse readings, as well as weight and weight measurements as well as an annual check-up.
For some, it may be that they are content with their medication and don't require an additional discussion regarding their titration. If you're required to discuss your titration or treatment plan in more detail it is likely that you'll be sent back to the private doctor who made your initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in the consultation fee, and they will be given their medication on an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than a prescription from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
