How to Unlock Your Vehicle

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following couple of steps. First, locate a clean work surface to perform the process. Set out all the tools you will need. Find the battery hatch, and ensure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver or coin or another similar tool to make the hatch off. Next, carefully pry out the battery by lifting the side closest to the key-ring hook. Make sure you wear rubber gloves to protect the contacts or the clips.

Once the battery has been removed, put the new one in its socket. Make sure the positive side of the battery is facing up, and that all clips are in place. Slide the cover down toward the key-ring area until it is loose and slides off. Then, lift the cover to reveal the mechanical key blade that is hidden within. This can be used to unlock your car by the driver's side doors when the battery of your key fob is dead or gone.

How to Start Your Vehicle

The majority of modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs that can do more than simply unlock or lock the doors. They can also be used to perform functions like summoning and auto parking the vehicle. The latest Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine using its key fob buttons. How to Change the Battery

Find the small hole that used to house the backup/emergency ignition key made of steel. Place the blade of a screwdriver or a prybar tool into this slot, and gently pry the rear of the fob open. Once you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery in its place and snap the fob back together.

Note: Older Volvos have a different battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of a millimeter thinner than a CR2032 battery, which means you must be cautious about the placement of your replacement.
