How to unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs offer greater functionality and comfort in comparison to traditional manual keys. The batteries will eventually wear out and require replacement. If your Volvo keyfob only functions intermittently, the battery may be dying and you will have to replace it quickly.

Fortunately, there are some easy steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Choose a clean, dry surface to work on. Then, lay out all of the tools you require. Then, locate the battery hatch, and turn it open using the flathead, a coin, or another similar tool. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting up on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to shield the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery has been removed, insert the new one into its socket. Make sure the positive side of the battery is facing upwards and that all clips are secured. Then, slide the cover back towards the key-ring loop until it is loose and slips off. Uncover the cover and reveal the hidden key blade. It can be used to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side door If the battery for your key fob is dead or gone.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Modern vehicles are equipped with keyfobs which do more than just unlock and lock the doors. They can also perform useful functions such as summoning or auto-parking the vehicle. This can cause the fob to stop working properly.

Once the hatch is open then slide the battery into its socket and make sure it is properly seated with the positive (+) side facing upwards. After the clips are secured into place, replace battery cover and then reassemble the fob.

By pressing the unlock button, you will disengage the alarm and unlock the driver's door. Repeating the process will unlock all doors and the tailgate. The unlock button can also be used to roll down the windows on a hot day or to let fresh air in before stepping out on the road. How to Change the Battery

If your key fob no long locks or unlocks your vehicle it is possible that it is time to replace the battery. The battery can be replaced with a flathead screwdriver, plastic pry bar or other small tools. Locate the small slot that used to house the backup/emergency ignition key made of steel. Insert the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently open the back of the key fob. Once you have opened the fob, you can locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery in its place, and join the fob.

Note: Some older Volvos use a different type of battery, the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of millimeters thinner than a CR2032 battery, so you will need to be cautious about the placement of the replacement.

When you insert it into the ignition barrel, an antenna reads the code and compares it to the one stored in your vehicle's start inhibitor module. If the codes don't match, the car will not start.
