How to replace a remote key or a smartkey?

Whether your Kia is equipped with an intelligent key, remote key, push-to-start key, or a regular non-transponder steel key the battery in these keys will eventually need replacing. Luckily, this is an easy procedure. To replace the battery on the key fob take the mechanical key from the slit at the back of the key fob. You then need to break the cover. Remove the old battery, and then align the new one in a way that the "+" positive side is facing your face and the "-" negative side is facing towards the fob's electronic contacts. Avoid using too much force when pushing the new CR2032 into position to avoid breaking or bending the steel contacts.

Once the new battery has been installed and the key fob is turned on, turn it off and back on in the ignition until the door locks cycle. You can then test the Kia's Key fob once more to ensure it's working properly.

How to replace the smart key

Depending on the model of your Kia Sportage, you may have a standard key fob or a smart key. The difference between them is that the smart key has an incredibly small key blade tucked inside it, while the standard fob doesn't. Both key fobs contain batteries that will eventually require replacement. This is a simple procedure which takes just two minutes.
