The j7+ has more space for the dustbin than many of the self-emptying robots we've tried. It is able to hold more debris, however you will still need to empty the bin every seven to eight month (or more often if you have pet hair or other large debris). iRobot provides filters and bags to replace.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the j7+'s front camera that is claimed to help the robot identify hazards such as power cords and pet waste and avoid them. The camera isn't able to work as well in low lighting however you may want to look at a competitor with a better-performing camera, such as the Roborock S7 MaxV.

I was also pleased to discover that when docked, the iRobot J7+ will automatically empty its dust bin and put it into Clean Base Automatic Dirt disposal. This is a major improvement over competitors who require you to open and empty the bag manually. It's a small detail but it can help you save time and frustration.

The T10's smart mapping technology is one of the features that sets it apart from other robot vacuums. It creates a detailed 3D map of the plan of your home. This allows the robot to detect obstacles more accurately and alter its direction, increasing the overall effectiveness of cleaning.

The mops have the same power as the vacuums and it has an attractive design that is superior to Roomba. Although it lacks an remote control, the T10's intelligent capabilities make up for this omission. It is easy to start or stop a cleaning cycle, schedule it, and modify the settings of the device with the app.

4. Shark ION XL

Shark's top-of-the-line self-emptying robot vacuum The ION XL is an excellent option for those looking for hands-free cleaning and the highest level of performance. The vacuum comes with a huge bin that can store a month's worth of dirt. It can be set to empty the bin at the end of each cleaning session to ensure long-term storage. The ION XL is one of the top robot vacuums on the market, suitable for carpets and hard flooring, and it can also sweep and mop your floor. You can control the robot with an app or voice commands. You can also make an outline of your home on demand. The robot vacuum empty itself does well at moving around furniture and can even navigate stairs and fully-carpeted rooms with ease.

I tested the IONXL using our standard test for debris in a family room as well as a kitchen with hardwood floors and area rugs. It was a great job vacuuming and removing pet hair, debris, and even some of the most stubborn carpet crumbs. It was also good at moving and didn't hit my bar stools as did the iRobot J7+ did in this test. The only issue is that the ION XL can't detect cords, toys and shoes that are in its path, therefore you'll need to clean your home prior to running this robot vacuum if you want it to avoid these items.

The ION XL robotic cleaner isn't as sophisticated as the iRobot J7+ but it's a good alternative if you don't want to spend over $500 on a robot. It's superior to the less expensive RoboVac 11S in most ways and is easier to maintain and requiring lower recurring costs. It's also better at vacuuming bare flooring and removing pet fur, but isn't as effective on carpets with a low or higher-pile carpet.

It's not as sturdy, but it's still an excellent option. The ION XL has a large bin capacity, it can be controlled with an app and voice command, and it is easy to keep up with maintenance. It is also affordable.
