A robot vacuum can make cleaning your floors easier. This is especially true if your home has hard floors and you want to cut down on the amount of Swiffer pads that you need to purchase or throw away.
Choose models that are simple to install and maintain. This includes charging the water tank and emptying it and removing and replacing the cleaning pads.
1. Object Avoidance
Robot vacuums are able to detect large obstacles such as furniture legs, walls, and pet toys. However, they may miss smaller objects that are pushed around while cleaning. This is a problem that most robots have and can cause chaos when they are caught in something they shouldn't. Robots equipped with object avoidance systems employ a variety of sensors (like laser, camera and LIDAR), to recognize small objects on the floor and avoid them during a cleaning session.
Certain robots make use of cameras to create an imaginary map and identify the best Floor vacuum mop's layout. These maps let you create boundaries and mop zones. You can also establish a schedule for cleaning, and control the flow of water through the mopping area for each space.
A robotic mop that makes use of mapping technology can be a great asset, particularly if your home has a lot of furniture and a complex floor plan. Mapping allows a robot to remember the arrangement of your rooms so that it can swiftly and efficiently clean them without running into or knocking over furniture or other items that are getting in the way.
In our tests, the iRobot Combo J7+ incorporated LIDAR with front-facing video cameras to eliminate obstacles in its path. This smart feature called PrecisionVision is able to work in both sweeping and mopping mode, and is a good illustration of how robots are getting more adept at identifying the objects they encounter on the floor.
This robot was great at avoiding large objects, but not than it was at detecting smaller objects like USB cords and sockballs. This is a common problem that we see in all robotic mops, but the good news is that there are plenty of options on the market which are better at this.
Some of these mops have a wand that is specially designed to spray a stream of clean water onto the floor while others employ an oscillating head to do the job with an easy drip of water and not a powerful spray. Choose a model that has a low-pressure water flow to reduce the damage.
2. Water Reservoir
Most robot mops have an explanation that they're not meant to be used on hard sticky, sticky, or set-in staining. The good news is that the vacuum cleaner that is able to do both is not as effective at removing the stains as a robotic.
We found that the Yeedi robot mop and vacuum was able to move around obstacles and adjust to objects like furniture, toys or pet hair leaving floors looking shiny and polished. The only issue was that it couldn't make it up to the top of ledges in order to reach rooms on the other side. It also has a smaller bin than the typical robot vacuum, which means it will need to be emptied more often if you utilize it throughout your home. We suggest getting a model with an automatic emptying dock that will drop its cleaning pads in the empty bin, avoiding multiple trips to the trash can.
Mopping robots' ability to return its dirty tanks to the dock to be cleaned and dried is an additional important feature. The majority of the models we tested did be able to do this, which can save you time in your cleaning routine. It is crucial to remember to manually empty the cleaning and dirt tanks and wash the reusable pads according to the instructions from the manufacturer between mopping sessions. This prevents mildew and other harmful bacteria from growing in the dark, moist space under the bot.
Many robot mop models have an app that lets you adjust their map of your home and customize your cleaning areas, schedules and monitor the status of a clean, and connect with other smart devices or voice assistants for hands-free control. The app can be used to detect when your mopping robot requires maintenance, for example, replacement of the filter. Some of the popular models come with smart home integration. This lets you connect them to smart lights, doorbells, and other devices.
3. Water Level Adjustment

It is helpful to locate models that let you schedule or manually start and finish cleaning. The app should also allow you to check the status of the mop in real-time. Similarly, it's helpful to choose a model that automatically recharges and resumes cleaning when the battery gets low during cleaning. Most models with this feature can clean a huge house in less than two hour.
It should be easy to use and be able to control your mop using voice commands. This is especially useful for those who wish to keep their floors clean while doing other chores or watching television. The majority of the mop models we tested have voice controls that are easy to use, however some require connecting the mop to Wi-Fi in order to connect to the app.
When buying a mopping robotic it is important to consider whether the machine will come with disposable cleaning pads or disposable ones. Reusable pads are greener but they are hard to stock and may not perform as well as disposable ones. Certain models let you select which kind of pad you want to use, but you'll need to ensure that you change them regularly or clean them after each cleaning.
If you have high-pile area carpets in your home, it's worth looking for an automated system that can manage them. iRobot’s j7 Combo is superior at cleaning these than the Roborock S7 Maxv Ultra, but it also does an excellent job on non-carpeted surfaces. You can also purchase an ECOVACS DEEBOT model that includes mopping and vacuuming capabilities.
4. Self-Mopping
Robot mops are quieter than vacuums and can help you save up to 35 hours of mopping per year. However, you'll still need to perform some maintenance like refilling the reservoir or changing a dirty cleaning pad. A self-mopping feature makes this less of a chore since the mop will be automatically returned to its dock when it's time for a new pad.
This feature is especially helpful for floors that are difficult to clean, like tile or granite. Certain mop models utilize an e-spinner that rotates to scrub floors, whereas others simply run a cleaning pad across the floor. Some mop models sweep and vacuum as well as mop, providing more options.
If you plan on using a mop robot frequently you should consider one that has a built-in dust bin or a bin that is simple to empty. Some mops that double as vacuums will require you to empty the bin more often than mops that simply mop and go, and some even have distinct bins for each purpose. The Ecovacs Deebot X1 comes with an auto-emptying bin for its sweeping pads, which is easier to open than the other vacuums, and it also automatically switches out the disposable pads for new ones when they're full.
Some robot mops are connected to smart homes, meaning you can use your phone or voice assistant to control them. The Braava Jet M6 is an example a smart best robot mop for vinyl floors mop that connects to a hub, meaning you can schedule recurring cleanings with your schedule and other preferences using the app. You can also receive a status update about the mop's battery and water levels, which can be useful even when you're not home.
Remember that no robot mop is perfect and even the top ones won't be able to get sticky and greasy messes as easily as you can with manual mops or traditional Swiffer. They're excellent for quick cleanups or for stopping stains from forming, but they aren't an alternative to a thorough hand mop or a thorough vacuum cleaner.
