Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Our service is private ADHD titration instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted with a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and private adhd Titration questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be advised if medication is considered to be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person via video link or by phone). Your doctor will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will offer you to titrate your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks and requires adjusting your child's dosage gradually until the appropriate balance is achieved. It is not uncommon to have to adjust up to three different medications before you find the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to be involved in this titration meaning adhd process and keep an eye on their child's behaviour to let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing side effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS care the medication you take will be given as an individual prescription that you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You will be required to attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. Usually the appointment will take place through a video call using zoom however in some instances it may be possible to do an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options we have and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dosage and any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost for these titration consultations is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any charges for medication.

The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history and Private ADHD Titration the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues you might be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, and it's vital to look into your family's history to determine if you're at risk of developing this disorder.

You can also wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

We suggest that if you are unsure about your preferences, you talk with your GP prior to booking your private appointment. Certain providers have different guidelines regarding whether they require a GP letter. We also suggest to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

Medication is a key aspect of the treatment process for many people who are looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. It can be difficult to get prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Inquiring your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can select a provider that offers an assessment and titration service. This can help you reduce time and be more convenient, particularly when you are on a tight schedule.

After you've been referred through this route your chosen doctor will evaluate you and determine whether or not you need to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that differ by doctor but the most important ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor identify any factors that might indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications if they are prescribed.
