Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed an exclusive key case to mark the centennial of the company. Made from Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a flying "B" paperweight, a set keys, and a brochure with never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre imagery.

Aesthetics

As a design-driven company, Bentley takes its aesthetics seriously. This is evident in the precise positioning of its quilting and the use of leather that is made from cattle by-products and sustainable-managed forests, as well as the unique patterns of its levers. A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you drive by, displaying its sculptural beauty and power through carefully curated lighting.

The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever designed. The rear of the tonneau in the Continental GT, for instance, featured the biggest piece of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

The company is constantly pushing the boundaries with the latest technology and hand-crafted products. Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary this year, 100 years after it was established. The marque, which is now owned by Volkswagen on its own after years of disputes with BMW and Volkswagen, had planned a number of special events and launches to mark the occasion. Design

Bentley is a renowned brand for its extravagant and luxurious cars however, even the keys are designed to stand out. The Bentayga Key is constructed of sterling silver and features a large B' symbol to signal to everyone that you're a Bentley. The key is also embossed with the dates 1919 and 2019 to commemorate the company's centennial.

The Mulsanne was redesigned and developed by Bentley Mulliner to be the ultimate Grand Touring car. It has two opposing pairs of rear seats modelled on luxury private aircraft offering passengers unbeatable comfort and privacy. A customized heating, ventilation and air conditioning system has been designed to ensure each passenger has the ideal climate control setting.

The Mulsanne is equipped with a twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine with 560bhp, and 479lb-ft of torque. This incredible power is complemented by a new suspension system that provides Bentley's trademark quiet ride.

Bentley has released a special specification for cars manufactured after 2019 to celebrate its centenary. This is known as the Centenary Specification. This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings are embroidered with Centenary Gold on the headrests seats, the interior and other areas of the car. This is a great way to celebrate the occasion. A custom Bentley key case is included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.

Function

It is also equipped with Secure-A-Key which can help prevent keyless entry theft. This device is put into the remote-control fob, and disables it when the key isn't used for a few minutes. It blocks thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that will allow the key to be opened and start the car.

Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their own car. The "mood station" lets customers pick images that inspire them. They can choose anything from beautiful landscapes to sporting events. Each time a selection is made the pattern that emerges is the model, color and style preferences for the personalized Bentley.

The resulting configuration is then loaded onto individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys which are presented to guests in a handmade key case. The keys can also be equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps which light the door's opening pathway with the owner's name or logo when they are approaching the vehicle.

Bentley claims it takes about 500 man-hours to craft and assemble the average Mulsanne. The key to this time-consuming effort is a deliberate refusal to adopt the latest technology. Instead of using a machine to place the perfectly matched leather seats workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. And rather than letting the car's built in sensors guide it to perpendicular and parallel parking spots, drivers have to do it manually.

Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization skills with a special Mulsanne W.O. Edition, that pays homage to the William Osler, the founder of Bentley. The Mulsanne W.O.
