Clean Burn Technology
Many of the wood burning stoves we offer are Defra approved, meaning they meet stricter standards for emissions when used with wood and other approved fuels. These stoves have been tested independently and are designed to burn a variety of fuels. A Defra-approved stove will also include features such as secondary and tertiary burns, which maximize the amount of energy used and reduce harmful gasses.
The stoves that are approved by Defra typically include an 'SE' symbol (which is a distinct sign for smoke-free) or the word SE after their name. This signifies that the stove has been independently tested and can be used in a Smoke-Control Area with logs or other approved solid fuels. The testing procedure includes an array of tests to check on the stove's performance under various conditions, and also to confirm that it produces at least 5 grams of particulates per kg when burning wood.
To meet this standard, Defra-approved stoves feature a modified top air control that prevents the user from closing it completely. Closing the top vent too much will decrease the flow of oxygen to the fire, causing it to smoulder rather than burn. If you attempted to do this with a non-Defra approved stove, you'd be in violation of the law and could be charged for a nuisance smoke offence.
The best method to avoid the stench of smoke that comes from a wood stove is to purchase kiln-dried or seasoned wood. The wood has been dried for a long time and reduces the moisture content below 20%. You can check the moisture content of your wood by using a simple wood moisture meter.
You can also reduce the amount of noxious smoke that is produced by your Defra approved stove by only using dry well-seasoned, kiln dried, or spruce logs. You should never burn wet, damp or unseasoned wood. This will cause lots of smoke and you could be fined by the local authority.
Smoke Control Area Approval
DEFRA approved stoves meet the strict air quality standards set by the government. These stoves can run on different fuels that include wood, as well as certain approved smokeless materials in Smoke Control Areas.
The smoke from burning untreated wood or other wet fuels in a stove that isn't DEFRA approved or exempt from DEFRA will cause a lot of irritation to your neighbors. It can also cause problems with the quality of air in your area, especially if you live in an urban area. You could be prosecuted or fined if you burn unauthorised fuels in an area designated as a Smoke Control Area or use an appliance that is not designed to work with smokeless fuels.
Defra approved stoves are made with secondary and tertiary combustion systems that allow fuel to be burned at lower temperatures which, in turn, produces less particulate matter (PM2.5). This is done by using stainless steel liners, and convection systems that force air down the chimney even after the fire is put out. This lets the stove burn wood and other fuels more efficiently, while emitting significantly less carbon dioxide.
A Defra Approved Stove will also feature an adjustment on the top air vent to prevent the stove from closing all the way. When you cut the air supply to the stove, it will cease to burn properly, smoulder excessively and begin to emit smoke. Defra approved appliances will allow you to shut the vent but not completely so that the flame can be burned at a lower temperature and still conform to UK legislation.
When you are choosing a new stove that is Defra-approved it is essential to consider the style and design and whether it is compatible with the interior decor of your home. There are many sizes and styles to pick from including traditional fireplace chambers and inglenooks to more contemporary designs that look fantastic in open living spaces.
Most Defra Approved Traditional Stoves, Http://Isaevclub.Ru/, approved stoves come with a 5kW flue outlet so they can be used legally in Smoke Control Areas, which include the majority of UK towns and cities. This can also to save money on installation costs, as the stove will require five" flue liner, instead of a more costly 6" liner.
Aesthetics
A multi-fuel stove does not have to be a functional feature in your home. you can pick one that has style and appeal. There are a variety of models available in different styles that will complement your decor, whether it's modern or traditional. They also tend to have sleeker lines and more polished appearance than stoves with only wood burning which makes them an attractive addition to any space.
Check that the stove you select fits your space and is compatible with your chimney or flue. Also, make sure that the stove's clearance from combustible materials is in compliance with local regulations. You can get an idea of these requirements by checking the manufacturer's guidelines, which should state how far you have to keep flammable materials such as curtains or walls away from the stove.
When you are shopping for a multi-fuel stove, you may want to consider the airwash system. This keeps the glass windows clear to allow you to enjoy your fire. Some multi-fuel stoves have a removable grate that makes it easier to change fuel and clean the stove.
Defra approved multi-fuel stoves are designed to minimize emissions and pollution which makes them an environmentally-friendly choice for eco-conscious homeowners. They're also extremely efficient and let you use less fuel and reduce your heating costs.
Many Defra multi-fuel stoves are offered in different styles to suit your aesthetic preferences.
