A robot vacuum that mops can take the hassle out of keeping your floors spotless. This is especially applicable if your home is made of hard flooring and you want to reduce the amount of Swiffer pads you have to purchase or dispose of.

1. Object Avoidance
Robot vacuums can spot big obstacles, such as furniture legs, walls and pet toys. However, they may miss smaller objects that are pushed around while cleaning. This is a concern that many robots face and could cause a mess when they are caught in things they shouldn't. Robots with object-avoidance systems use sensors (like lasers, cameras or LIDAR) to detect and avoid small objects on the ground.
Most of the robots that we tested with this feature used a laser to help guide the robot and avoid obstacles, but some also use cameras to identify the floor's layout, and create a virtual map of the area. These maps let you define boundaries and no-mop zones and set a cleaning schedule and regulate the flow of water in every room during mopping.
Mapping technology is among the biggest benefits of a robot that mop particularly if you live in a house with a lot of furniture or complex floor plans. A robot that maps can memorize your rooms' arrangement so that it can clean them quickly and effectively without crashing into furniture or other objects.
In our tests the iRobotCombo j7+ employed a combination of LIDAR and an in-front camera to stay clear of obstacles in its path. This smart feature called PrecisionVision can be used in both mopping and sweeping mode and is an illustration of how robots are becoming more adept at identifying the objects they come across on the floor.
This robot was good at eliminating large objects, but less than it was at detecting smaller objects like USB cords and sockballs. This is a common issue we encounter with a lot of robotic mop. The good news is there are numerous options available to do a much better job.
Some of these mops use a special wand to spray a stream of water on floors, while others come with an oscillating head that performs the task with a gentle drip, and not as large streams of water. Find a model with an air flow that is low-pressure to reduce the risk of damage.
2. Water Reservoir
The majority of robot mops come with a disclaimer that they're not intended to be used on difficult, stuck-on, or set-in stains. The positive side is that a vacuum cleaner that can do both is not as effective at removing the stains as a robotic.
We discovered that the Yeedi robot mop and vacuum could navigate around obstacles and adjust to objects like furniture, toys or pet hair leaving floors sparkling and polished. It wasn't able to reach the top of the ledges, which means it wasn't able to reach rooms on the other side. It's a smaller bin than most robot vacuums, which means you might need to empty it more often in the event that it is used in your home. We suggest buying a model that has self-emptying docks, which will place its cleaning pads in an empty container, saving you multiple trips to the trash can.
Mopping robots' ability to automatically return dirty tanks to the dock to be washed and dried is another important feature. The majority of models that we tested do, saving you an extra step in your cleaning routine. But, it's important to note that you will have to manually empty the cleaning solution and dirt tanks and wash the pads according to their manufacturer instructions between mopping sessions. This helps prevent mildew and other unwanted bacteria from developing in the moist, dark area under the bot.
Many robot mop models come with an application that lets you modify the map of your home, customize cleaning areas and schedules, see the progress of cleaning, and connect other smart devices or voice-activated assistants for hands free control. The app can also be used to determine whether your mopping device requires maintenance, for example, a filter replacement. A few of the most popular models feature smart home integration that allows you to connect them to your smart light bulbs as well as doorbells and other gadgets.
3. Water Level Adjustment
A robot vacuum that mops can be a worthwhile investment for those who frequently spend time and energy cleaning their floors. However, most mops come with a disclaimer saying that they are not designed to be used for stubborn or sticky messes or set-in stains. If you're searching for a mopping robot that does more than just get rid of dust and spills it's important to look for one that's able to alter the level of water and/or scrub intensity to deal with difficult messes.
It's useful to find models that let you plan or manually begin and finish cleaning. The app should also allow you to monitor the status of the mop in real time. It's also helpful to choose mops that automatically charge when the battery gets depleted. We've seen that the majority of models with this feature can clean a large area in less than two hours.
It should be easy to use and have the option to control your mop with voice commands. This is especially useful for those who want to clean their floors while doing other chores or watching television. The majority of the mop models we tested come with voice controls that are easy to use, but some require you to connect the mop with your Wi-Fi to access the app.
When buying a mopping robotic be sure to think about whether the machine will come with disposable cleaning pads or one that is reusable. The reusable pads are greener but they are difficult to store and may not perform quite as well as disposable ones. Certain models let you select the type of pad you wish to use, but it's essential to keep in mind to wash or change them every cleaning.
If you have a lot of high-pile area rugs in your home, it's worth looking for a robotic mop that is able to take care of these. iRobot’s j7 Combo is superior in cleaning these rugs than the Roborock S7 maxv ultra but it also does an excellent job on non-carpeted surfaces. You can also purchase an ECOVACS DEEBOT series model that has mopping and vacuuming capabilities.
4. Self-Mopping
The majority of robot mops will save you up to 35 hours a year of exhausting mopping, and they're quieter than best roomba vacuum cleaners. But you'll still need to perform some maintenance like refilling the reservoir of water or changing out a dirty cleaning pad. Self-mopping features make this less of a hassle because the mop will return to its dock when it's time for the replacement pad.
This feature is especially useful when you have floors that are difficult to clean, like tile or granite. Some mop models scrub floors using an elongated, rotating bristle and others employ pads for cleaning. There are mops that can sweep or vacuum in addition to mopping, meaning you'll have a variety of options for your cleaning needs.
If you plan on using a mop robot frequently you should consider one that has a built-in dust bin or a bin that is simple to empty. Some mops which also vacuum require you to empty the bin more frequently than those that just mop. Some have a separate dustbin for each task. The Ecovacs Deebot X1 has an auto-emptying bin for its sweeping pads that is more accessible than other robot vacuums, and it also automatically swaps out the disposable pads for new ones when they're full.
Certain robot mops are connected to smart homes, meaning you can use your smartphone or a voice assistant to control them. The Braava Jet m6 is an example of smart robot mops that can be connected to a hub, meaning you can schedule regular cleaning schedules based on your schedule and other preferences using the app. You can also receive an update regarding the mop's battery and water levels, which can be useful when you're not at home.
