Assessing the Risk for ADHD in Adults

This article will assist you in determining whether you are at risk of developing ADHD as you grow older. This article provides a guide to some of the most common tests used for this purpose. It also discusses the biological markers of ADHD and the impact of feedback on assessments.

CAARS-L:

The Conners' Adult ADHD Rating Score-Self Report Long Edition, or CAARS-S, L, is a self report measure that measures the impact of ADHD in adults. It provides a multi-informant assessment that can identify the signs and symptoms in the clinically significant areas of restlessness, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. In addition to self-report and observer scores it also offers a validity index known as the Exaggeration Index.

This study examined the performance and efficacy of the CAARS S:L both paper and online adult adhd assessment administration formats. We discovered no differences in psychometric properties of the clinical constructs in these two formats. However, we did notice some variations in the levels of elevations created by participants. The CAARS-S: L is a reliable instrument for evaluating ADHD symptoms in adults. It is susceptible for feigning, however, due to the absence of a fake validity scale. Participants can alter their responses, causing them to report greater degree of impairment than is actually the case.

While CAARS-S-L is a good overall performer, it is vulnerable to feigning. Therefore, it is advised to exercise caution when administering it.
