Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history and an assessment using the standard ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

Following your assessment you will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, by video link or over the phone). Your physician will explain to you the various options for medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will suggest titrating the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks and involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to have to titrate several times before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will be issued a Private Adhd titration Website prescription for your medication. You will have to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted through a zoom video call. This is because ADHD can be an inheritable condition, and it is essential to examine any family history that may suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.

During the assessment, it is essential that you are truthful and open with the doctor in the sense that they will use the information you provide to determine if you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is an important step because a wrong diagnosis could lead to inappropriate medication prescription.

If you have decided that you'd like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this field. This can be scheduled in the wake of your diagnosis if you want to start treatment immediately or within two weeks if prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.

If you're not sure which one you prefer, we suggest that you talk to your GP prior to booking your private assessment as some providers have different policies about whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also recommend to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement that means that after you have been discharged from the clinic, you will be returned to them for the prescription for medication.

Medication

For many people who seek an individual diagnosis of ADHD medication is a crucial aspect of their journey. It isn't easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs may be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to request your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can select a provider who offers a private assessment service and the titration. This can cut down on wait time considerably and can be more convenient when you are working and have a full schedule.

Once you've been referred, your clinician will assess you to determine if you need medication adjustment. You will be asked to fill in forms that vary by provider but the most common ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be part of their consultation fees and they will be given their medication via an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
