ADD and Treatment

ADD and treatment is usually connected to problems at school, home or work. The psychiatric illness isn't easy to identify and manage.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most popular name used for this psychiatric condition. Mental health specialists diagnose ADHD with SPECT brain scans.

Symptoms of classic ADD include being easily distracted, forgetful and unorganized. Medications like stimulants and antidepressants can help.

Limbic ADD

The most common form of ADD, also known as classic ADD or hyperactive-impulsive ADD, is characterized by inattention, a lack of organizational skills, difficulty staying on task, and trouble with memory. Brain scans show that those suffering from this condition have normal activity in the prefrontal cortex both at rest and during concentration, however they have decreased activity in the cerebellum and the basal ganglia which are responsible for the production of dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that promotes motivation, focus, and calmness. People with this type have a hard time shifting their attention, are easily distracted by distractions and noises, and have shorter attention spans. They are unable to fall asleep, and often wake up in the middle of the night, battling anxiety. They are often overwhelmed by their emotions and have an impulsive personality, getting easily frustrated and easily angry.

Ring of Fire ADD is distinguished by all the typical ADD symptoms, but also by difficulties in shifting their focus from one thought to another and between tasks. They have a sensitivity to light, noise and touch; they talk too fast and are impulsive and easily triggered to a negative behavior. They are prone to moodiness, low energy and anger. They can also get caught up in negative thoughts and guilt-related feelings.

It is possible to mistake the symptoms of limbic ADD with depression. But it is different because it increases activity in the limbic part of the brain when it is at the moment of rest and while concentrating. It is a condition that can be treated with supplements like L-tryptophan, 5-HTP inositol, saffron, and saffron that improve focus, alertness and mood as well as mental clarity; amino acid GABA to regulate neural activity and stop nerve cells from over-firing or firing erratically; and liver support.

It is essential to differentiate between ADD and mood disorders such as Bipolar Disorder, which also can cause irritability, frustration and low self-esteem. The distinction is that ADD with Limbic Symptoms has more consistent anger and frustration over time, while Bipolar Disorder symptoms tend to manifest in waves.

Overfocused ADD

Over-focused ADD patients are often stuck in negative thoughts and add And treatment behavior that cause excessive worry. This is because they exhibit rigid behaviors similar to people suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). These individuals often become threatened emotionally when required to shift their attention from one task to the next and react with a threatening or hostile behavior.

These people are likely to have a short temper and their irritability stems from a persistent negative or low-grade sadness "glass half-empty syndrome" and frequent feelings of hopelessness and desperation. They may also struggle with memory issues, experience extreme anger, and are prone to having a short fuse.

People who have hyper-focused ADD may be rigid when it comes to changing tasks and become engrossed in their job or pastime. They may not remember appointments or deadlines at work or at home and may not complete their homework or chores. They may also be extremely stubborn and resentful when they are disapproved of by their parents or teachers.

Children who have overfocused ADD exhibit a high level of stubbornness and irritability, and are susceptible to throwing a rage when their interests are trampled on. They may be obsessed with particular toys, activities, and video games. They also have difficulty expressing their feelings, and can be extremely sensitive to criticism or rejection.

This form of ADD is more prevalent in children and is often difficult to identify. Children who show this behavior may have difficulty understanding the cause of their problems. due to the inability of them to shift their focus between tasks. This is the reason it's crucial to seek the help of an expert, since children with this kind of behavior are more likely to be misdiagnosed by family physicians and even psychologists. This kind of ADD is usually treated using diet changes, supplements, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Medications are sometimes prescribed, however this kind of ADD can be difficult to treat using stimulant medications, as these can increase a person's level of hyperactivity. Functional neuroimaging is a method to differentiate between the seven different types of ADD. It is especially useful in diagnosing hyperfocused ADD.

Anxious ADD

Many people suffering from ADD have a high degree of anxiety. This is a comorbidity (having more than one disorder simultaneously) is common, impacting the majority of people suffering from adult add treatment/ADHD. Stress and anxiety can resemble the symptoms of ADD/ADHD, and misdiagnosis can lead to improper treatment and further frustration.

Anxious ADD can cause problems with school, work, and social situations. This type of ADD may lead to low achievement and feelings of inadequateness. People suffering from anxious ADD tend to avoid challenging tasks and activities because they think they'll fail.

They also fear being criticized or being judged. They hide their problems to others. In some cases, these sufferers are so anxious and stressed that they suffer from panic attacks. These panic attacks can be severe and life-threatening. They trigger an increase in heart rate sweating, difficulty breathing and difficulty breathing. Anxious ADD is distinct from Classic ADD because it has increased activity in the basal ganglia, as well as the amygdala. These areas are instinctive and place a high value on security. This can shut down PFC and can make it difficult for people with this disorder to focus.

When a person has anxiety and ADD/ADHD and anxiety, the symptoms they experience are more difficult to manage. This is due to the treatment programs for ADD/ADHD that are designed to increase brain activity, may actually increase anxiety in people who have anxious ADD.

Amen Clinic psychiatrists utilize functional neuroimaging such as SPECT scans to identify where in the brain low and/or higher levels of activity are found. This helps them differentiate between the seven types of brain and determine the best treatment.

A psychiatrist will gather a complete medical record and conduct a physical exam to determine if a patient has ADD/ADHD. They may also inquire about the patient's mood and behavior to evaluate the patient's overall functioning. Sometimes, medications are used to treat ADD/ADHD but most patients need other therapies as well, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or nutrition and exercise, sleep strategies, desensitization, and other techniques to relax. This can aid in improving their ability to manage their emotions and improve their overall functioning.

Temporal Lobe ADD

This type of ADD affects the temporal lobe in the brain which is responsible for memory and mood. People suffering from this kind of ADD struggle to retain and learn they experience mood instability and have extreme anger or aggression issues. They also suffer from a variety of sensory issues, like experiencing a sense of deja vu, or experiencing shadows or objects changing forms and hearing sounds that other people don't hear. They are irritable, sensitive and easily overstimulated.

This kind of ADD has the same symptoms as Classic ADD. These include low attention spans and disorganization. It also has difficulties staying focused or following directions. This type of ADD is not associated with excessive impulsivity or hyperactivity. This type of ADD occurs more often in women. People suffering from this kind of ADD might have low levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter, which can lead to feelings of depression and poor self-regulation. It is characterized by sleeplessness, anxiety and irritability.

In this instance, qEEG brain mapping scans of the brain indicate that individuals with Over-focused ADD have normal activity in their anterior cingulate gland which is the brain's "gear shifter," but they are having trouble shifting gears. They can't move from one task or thought to another and get stuck in negative thoughts and behavior.

This is a form of ADD in which people are highly motivated and hardworking but are unable to focus on important tasks. They can lose track and feel embarrassed or exhausted because of their behavior. They may have a difficult relationship with others because they are hyper-active or reactive, and struggle with multitasking or working with other people. In certain situations, they can suffer from depression or anxiety. They are susceptible to panic attacks and are susceptible to hallucinations. The use of medications for this kind of ADD are not advised, since they do not address the underlying cause of symptoms.general-medical-council-logo.png
