The psychiatric disorder is most commonly known as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Mental health professionals utilize the SPECT brain imaging method to determine ADHD.
The signs of classic ADD include being easily distracted, forgetful and unorganized. The use of antidepressants and stimulants can help.
Limbic ADD
The most common form of ADD, also known as classic ADD or hyperactive-impulsive ADD, is characterized by inattention, a lack of organizational skills, difficulty staying on task, and trouble with memory. Brain scans reveal that people with this type have normal activity in the prefrontal cortex both at rest and during concentration, however they have decreased activity in the cerebellum and basal ganglia, which help make dopamine, a neurotransmitter that promotes motivation, add and treatment focus, and calmness. This type has a limited attention span, is easily distracted by sounds or other stimuli and is unable to shift attention. They have difficulty falling asleep, and often awake in the middle of the night feeling anxious. They often feel overwhelmed by emotions and possess a short fuse, becoming quickly annoyed by tasks and easily annoyed.
Ring of Fire ADD is characterized by all the classic ADD symptoms however, it also has the difficulty of shifting their attention between thoughts and between tasks. They are sensitive to light, sound and even touch. They talk too quickly and are indecisive. They experience periods of depression and low energy, are quick to anger and can get stuck in negative thoughts and guilt.
It is possible to confuse limbic ADD with depression. However, it is different in that it boosts activity in the limbic part of the brain at the moment of rest and while concentrating. It is a condition that can be treated with supplements such as L-tryptophan, 5-HTP, saffron, and ADD and Treatment inositol that improve concentration, alertness and mood. They also improve mental clarity. They also use amino acid GABA to regulate neural activity and stop nerve cells from firing too much or irregularly and liver support.
It is important to distinguish between ADD and mood disorders such as Bipolar Disorder, which also can cause frustration, irritability, and poor self-esteem. The main difference between ADD with Limbic Symptoms and Bipolar Disorder is that ADD has a more constant level of irritability that lasts over time. Bipolar Disorder tends to have symptoms that come in waves.
Overfocused ADD
Over-focused ADD patients are often stuck in negative thoughts and behavior that trigger excessive worrying. This is because they exhibit rigid behaviors that are similar to those suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). They can be angry when they are asked to shift their attention between different activities, and they may react with a resentful or argumentative behavior.
They are often unhappy and their irritability can be caused by chronic low-grade sadness or negativity. They may also experience difficulties learning, have memory issues, or experience severe anger and aggression.
People who have hyper-focused ADD may be rigid when it comes to switching tasks and can become absorbed in their hobbies or work. They may forget appointments and deadlines at work or at home and may not finish their homework or chores. They may also be stubborn and resentful if they are disciplined or punished by their parents or teacher.
Children who have overfocused ADD show a high degree of irritability and stubbornness and may be susceptible to throwing a rage when their interests are violated. They can be obsessive about specific toys, activities and video games. They also have difficulty expressing their emotions, and can be extremely sensitive to criticism or rejection.
This type of ADD can be difficult to identify, particularly in children. The majority of children don't understand that their problem is caused by their inability to switch their focus from one thing to another. It's important to consult an expert as these children are more likely to be misdiagnosed for ADD. This type of ADD is treatable with dietary modifications, supplements, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. This type of ADD is hard to treat adult add even with stimulant medication due to the fact that it can cause the intensity of hyperactivity. Functional neuroimaging is often used to identify the seven distinct kinds of ADD and is especially useful for diagnosing hyperfocused ADD.
Anxious ADD
Many people with ADD suffer from high levels of anxiety. This comorbidity (having more than one disorder simultaneously) is common, impacting up to half of all people suffering from ADD/ADHD. Stress and anxiety can mirror the symptoms of ADD/ADHD. Incorrect diagnosis can result in unsuitable treatment for add and frustration.
Anxious ADD can cause issues at work, in school, or with social situations. This type of ADD can cause under-performance and feelings of unworthiness. People with anxiety ADD tend to avoid difficult tasks and events, believing they'll fail.
They are also afraid of being judged or critiqued. They hide their problems to others. In some cases, sufferers are so stressed and anxious that they develop panic attacks. These panic attacks can be extremely severe and life-threatening. They trigger an increase in heart rate sweating, difficulty breathing and difficulty breathing. Anxious ADD differs from Classic ADD because it has increased activity in the Basal ganglia and the amygdala. These areas are instinctive and focus on safety. This can shut down the PFC and can make it difficult for those with this condition to concentrate.
If someone suffers from anxiety and ADD/ADHD their symptoms are more difficult to treat. This is because treatment protocols for ADD/ADHD which are designed to stimulate the brain could actually increase anxiety among people with anxiety ADD by reducing activity in their PFC.
Amen Clinics psychiatrists employ functional neuroimaging, like SPECT scanning, to determine which areas of the brain are high and/or low levels of activity. This helps them distinguish between the seven types of brain and determine the best treatment.
To determine if someone has ADD/ADHD psychiatrist collects a full medical history and conducts physical examination. In addition, he or will ask questions about behavior and mood to determine a patient's overall functioning. Some medications are used to treat ADD/ADHD but in most cases, patients require other treatments in addition, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, nutrition and exercise, sleep strategies, desensitization and other relaxation techniques. This can improve their ability to manage their emotions and improve their overall performance.
Temporal Lobe ADD
This type of ADD is a problem with the temporal lobe in the brain which is responsible for mood and memory. People suffering from this type of ADD struggle to learn and store information, experience mood instability, and are prone to severe anger or aggression issues. They may also be suffering from sensory issues like feeling like they're in a dream and seeing shadows or objects change form or hearing sounds that other people don't hear. They are often sensitive and angry and are often overstimulated by certain things, such as computer screens or crowds.
The symptoms of this type of ADD are similar to those of Classic ADD, including short attention spans and disorganization, difficulties in following directions or staying focused, and procrastinating. However, this type of ADD does not cause impulsivity or hyperactivity. This kind of ADD is more prevalent in women. This type of ADD is defined by the low levels of dopamine in the brain, which can cause feelings of low motivation or insufficient self-regulation. Symptoms can include trouble sleeping and feelings of anxiety or irritability.
In this case, qEEG brain mapping scans of the brain show that people with Over-focused ADD have normal activity in their anterior cingulate region, the brain's "gear shifter," but they are having trouble shifting gears. They aren't able to shift from one thought or task to another, and they get stuck in negative thoughts and behavior.
This is a form of ADD where people can be highly motivated and hardworking however, they have a tendency to be easily distracted by mundane or insignificant tasks. They may lose track of their school work, and their parents or teachers are often annoyed or ashamed of their behavior. They may experience difficulties in relationships due to their tendency be impulsive and reactive. They also have difficulty managing multiple tasks and working with others. In some cases they may be depressed or anxious. They are susceptible to panic attacks and are susceptible to hallucinations. Treatments for this type of ADD aren't usually recommended since they do not address the root causes of symptoms.
