Cheap Multi Fuel Stoves

The pump is above the fuel line, and the generator loop is wrapped around the inlet, and the flame spreader sits above. The burner is a low-velocity flame type. This makes it less susceptible to wind.

It is a very versatile little cooker since it can be used with propane canisters or isobutane. It is easy to simmer using isobutane and propane and it burns all fuels at a decent rate. However when using white gas, the stove is a little slower.

One important thing to remember when using the Hydra is that the instructions are written in English which was not written by a native speaker of the language. The instructions warn against the use of certain kinds of lighter fluids that, if misinterpreted as what is actually intended can lead to an accident that could land Kovea in a lot of legal hot water. But that, any 7/16ths UNEF threaded gas container from a trusted brand is likely to work perfectly.

Primus OmniLite Ti

Primus Omnilite Ti can be an ideal option for those looking for a multifuel cookware that cooks with a variety of fuels. It can be used with petrol/gasoline, gasoline or diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel. It has separate controls for every fuel type and allows you to adjust the flame size. This stove has an fuel pipe that sits flat on the floor and can be connected to the tank quickly.

While the Primus Omnilite is a fantastic stove, it does require maintenance to ensure it is operating properly. Particularly it is prone to flare during priming, which could be risky. MSR developed the Dragonfly to be a better burner. It's designed in the same way as the whistler, however it is smaller and offers better performance. It's not as inexpensive as the Whistler Lite. The Soto Amicus cookset and stove is an excellent alternative that offers a similar setup for half the price. You can also purchase a Whisperlite International or Universal for isobutane containers as well. Both versions share the same design and style, but the Universal version is also compatible with canister fuel.

Coleman Sportster II

Like many Coleman stoves, this one is a basic unpretentious unit that gets the job done. It's strong, compact and self-contained with the tank on the bottom and the burner up at the top. This makes it simple to use and is a great option for backpackers, beginners looking to reduce weight and those who have spares in the van.

The stove is designed to burn Coleman's proprietary fuel (naptha gas, also known as white gas), this stove can be used with unleaded gasoline too. This will save you money as a gallon of gasoline can last as long as the regular Coleman liquid fuel cylinder.

It requires some practice to achieve a perfect blue flame on a stove with liquid fuel. You'll have to pressurize the stove and prime them correctly before you can do so. If you don't do it right the fuel could spill out, splash beyond the burner, or even splash out. Do some practice outside before going on your next trip to get the hang of it.

This stove does give up some performance or odor reduction with non-coleman fuels however that's a trade off for the additional versatility it offers. Make sure to purchase unleaded gasoline and not something enhanced with methanol or (alcohol). That's because these types of fuels can cause the unit to disintegrate, leak, sputter and possibly even explode!
