In a perfect game, Team Stark would strike down each of the Lannister kubbs and still have one baton remaining, which it would then use to knock over the king and then end the game. In the most basic version of the game, toppled kubbs are removed from the pitch as they fall, until the king is finally taken down. Then, the Starks stand these kubbs right where they fell. Traditionally the 1 ball is placed at the rack's right corner and the 5 ball is placed at the rack's left corner for visibility, though there is no such rule requirement. The only restriction is that the penalty kubb must be at least one baton length from the king or the corner markers. With your kubb set in hand, you must mark the playing field (or pitch) using corner pins. Some players mark the out of bounds line with chalk or other material that doesn't interfere with game play. When a team throws kubbs into the field, sometimes they bounce out of bounds. In the event that it goes out of bounds once again, the opposing team takes control of the kubb, which is now called a penalty kubb. The billiard balls, formerly made of ivory or Belgian clay, are now usually plastic; they each measure from about 21/4 to 23/8 inches (5.7 to 6 cm) in diameter, the larger balls being used in carom billiards.

A specific number of balls, cue balls, and cue sticks are used to play these games. It is solid white in the game of pool, but in carom billiards, one player may play with a spotted or even a yellow cue ball. The earliest known reference to billiards dates back to the 1470s, when a French monk wrote about a game called "ballard". If not, Team Lannister tosses back fallen kubbs to the Stark side and another round begins. These were Prohibition times, so Gillette designed his bar to lock and disappear in an instant, and it could only be reopened by pushing a secret lever in the back. It’s like a secret rule to be extra careful. The second team, who we'll call Team Lannister, may choose the side of the pitch it would like to play from. If you make your game pieces from foam, you can even play inside.

A penalty kubb presents an interesting opportunity for the defending team, because they can place this kubb wherever they like. There's one twist -- Team Stark leaves one of their still-standing field kubb in place. This can be employed to move the Sun and Earth in tandem to a place where the Earth can more easily be destroyed. Aside from the obvious ways of boxing, athletes can also display their prowess in judo, wrestling, karate, Muay Thai or kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, capoeira, wushu sanshou and sambo. In informal play, there can be any number of team members in each team. In kubb, however, there are a number of defensive moves involved. The batons are distributed equally amongst team members, so teams with a greater number of skilled throwers have a substantial advantage. This temporary baseline creates a tremendous advantage because Team Stark will likely be in closer range, making all of the kubbs on the Lannisters' side much easier to overturn. From behind its own baseline, Team Stark throws its batons, one by one, at the kubbs on Team Lannister's baseline. Once the field kubbs are down, the Lannisters may go after the Starks' baseline kubbs, and if successful, may then attack the king.

To begin their attack, the Lannisters must first topple all field kubbs. They gathered the names of everyone they knew who could afford to spend at least $500 and sent them invitations to the first Red Baron's Antiques Auction. We do know, however, that kubb's first and most stalwart backers probably originated in Gotland, which is an island just off of the east coast of Sweden. But you don't have to travel all the way to Sweden to develop a taste for this blocky diversion. The best way to learn is to play. Now that you know the basics of kubb, what is billiards read on for some of the finer points on game play. These are now called field kubbs. This back-and-forth continues until one team is finally able to knock down all of the kubbs and then the king. If you throw kubbs close to the centerline and then fail to overturn them, the other team suddenly has an opportunity to advance forward to a temporary baseline and knock down all of your kubbs from close proximity.
