Slot Rankings - How Wide Receivers Score More Touchdowns in the Slot
Slot machines operate exactly the same way every spin, so you won't discover any secrets to beat them. However there are some things to be aware of to maximize your winnings.
Take a look at the RTP of a game first. This number indicates how many players can anticipate winning in the long run.
Slot Efficiency
The objective of efficiency in slot machines is to maximize the number of changes to the slot that can be made, without violating certain constraints. These constraints usually include the minimal operational delay (usually expressed in terms of scheduling delays) fairness and equity, Hacksaw Slot machine access and competition, environmental targets, and more. The slot allocation process can be a complex process and optimizing it in order to meet the desired performance metrics requires a careful analysis of the factors involved.
The process begins by identifying the types of requests to be prioritised by reference to historical precedents. Once the type is determined, the slot allocation model is then used to minimize the delay criteria. A number of research gaps have been found in relation to the models for optimizing slot scheduling particularly when it comes to trying to balance fairness and efficiency.
ABC (assigned based on velocity) is a common method for prioritizing slot allocation. This strategy gathers information about the item's history and then selects a group based on velocity. Items with the highest velocity are given the best progressive slots, whereas smaller velocity items are placed further back in the warehouse.
The distance factor is a key element in slot efficiency. It determines the amount of space needed to facilitate the pick-to-ship process. The calculation considers the speed of the group, racking placements and the handling characteristics of the products.
It is also important to take into consideration the costs of a change in the slot to improve the efficiency of your slot. A quick analysis of a typical slot change can aid managers in determining the costs associated with the move, and the effects it may have on other aspects of slot efficiency, including velocity.
After spending a month or two validating the data and back-dating recommendations, the casino started using the solution more regularly. The gaming operations team estimates that they will save between 10 and 12 hours per month with their traditional analysis but that doesn't count the time spent reviewing the customer-rated data or developing and analyzing new strategies that are actionable.
Based on the new recommendations from SRE, the team was able to make numerous suggestions for game changes that increased the revenue of players. In particular, Dancing Drums Explosion and Twinstar Wave XL both from Scientific Games, saw big gains in the premium lease and WAP rankings. The casino also managed to shift their budget from marketing and other expenses to enhancing floor performance.
Perimeter Efficiency
We all know that wide receivers tend score more touchdowns when they are capable of hitting perimeter targets rather than slot targets. This is because they are generally targeted downfield, and often have one-on-one coverage. But what might surprise some is that there's a difference between the top five slot receivers and the rest of them when it comes to scoring on these targets that are located in the perimeter.
Mike Evans, Amari cooper, Tyler Lockett, and Michael Gallup were the top five scorers on perimeter routes of the 66 wide-receivers who saw at least 40 targets each of the previous two seasons. The bottom of the list was populated with more possession-based receivers including Chris Godwin and Diontae Johnson. These two are likely to see a boost in their targets this season if the Bucs move them into the slot more often, but they'll need to improve their perimeter scoring to maintain their high standards.
Speedy wideouts are the biggest benefits of moving into the slot since they have an easier time getting open downfield in the event that their route isn't blocked by a cornerback or linebacker. The only non-speedy wide receiver on the list who benefits from more Hacksaw Slot Machine time is Corey Coleman, as he's an extremely reliable receiver on intermediate and short routes.
The bottom of the list is populated by possession-based receivers who perform better on short and intermediate routes than in deep areas, such as Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Jeudy is a solid choice for a sleeper this year as he'll be the primary slot receiver for the Rams while Courtland Sutton and Amari Cooper are likely to be involved in more downfield targets. Hamler should be able to be a star on short-to-mid routes, since that's what he did well in 2021 while playing for the Bills. Hamler could be a fantastic replacement for the departing wideout Jordan Matthews in Buffalo.
Percentage of Snaps in the Slot
The percentage of snaps a receiver takes in the slot is an excellent indicator of their ability to play deep routes. However, it's not always an accurate representation of a receiver's skill set as certain receivers excel in the slot but aren't able to play deep and vice versa.
Alshon Jeffrey, for instance, leads the league in goals per game (4.8), but is only ranked 6th in the slot that receives scores (58.5). This is due to the fact that most of his targets are from outside and it's hard to get a first down in a wide-open, deep and wide-open route.
On the other hand, certain receivers excel at playing inside and can't do much on the outside. For instance, the Panthers handed Robby Anderson 978 snaps last season, and he ran 74 percent of his slot routes, compared to just 26% for boundary routes. This is an enormous difference and shows just how much more productive Robby Anderson is when he's aligned with the slot.
Chris Godwin, a Buccaneers player, lines up inside most of the time on his passes and is among the top five slot receiving scores (58.5). He also ran 51% of his perimeter routes and is a master in one-on-1 coverage.
Speed receivers are typically more efficient when they line up inside, as they are able to be targeted down the field, and often have one-on-one coverage. You'll find names like Mike Evans, Amari Cooper, and Julio Jones in our top five.
McDuffie, Moore and other slot cornerbacks also belong to this group. Both have been able to generate pressures in the pass game with McDuffie leading the NFL with seven forced fumbles, and Moore being the most effective tackle stop rate on this list (-3.5). Spagnuolo made McDuffie's abilities more effective by using his slot to play nickel and dime packs and then shifting him to the outside when playing base defense. Additionally, Moore's ability to stop big run plays has been a huge asset when playing in the slot.
Percentage of Snaps Outside
While the NFL's top receivers such as Baldwin, Golden Tate and Larry Fitzgerald excel on the perimeter, it's also worth noting that their slot counterparts are equally excellent. Wide receivers who have high slot grades score touchdowns about the same as those on the outside. This is mostly because quarterbacks have a more stable target distribution when throwing to slot and outside receivers compared to other inside options like tight ends and backfield pass-catchers.
It's therefore interesting to see a player like CeeDee lamb on this list for 2022. He plays the slot in 3 WR sets and flanker in two of them. Lamb is running more routes in the slot than a lot of the players on this list. This is an excellent opportunity to increase matchup benefits for your team. It also helps explain why Lamb is the highest-graded receiver in our system.
Of course, he also plays the X position and makes huge plays on the perimeter as well. Lamb isn't as powerful as the players in this list but he's a very high-graded receiver and is an excellent player for the Cowboys' scheme.
Mecole Hardman, another player who is able to put huge numbers on both types of targets, is a further example. He has a very high slot receiver grade and is one of the best players in the league at catching back-shoulder throws however, he's also a formidable player for contested-catch.
Another player on this list who's a true slot specialist is Baltimore's Jalen Hilton who has been positioned in the slot on 85.7 percent of his defensive snaps this season. He has the third-lowest EPA for targets, and the fifth-highest EPA for run stops among cornerbacks who play in the slot. This makes him a valuable part of his team's defensive unit. He's had a difficult time stopping passes from the outside and his EPA against this type of target is negative. This is because he's been playing with linebackers and safety players who can't match Hilton's speed, size and ability to run routes.
