Roomba 960 from iRobot
The iRobot Roomba 980, the latest in a series of top-of the-line T8 Robot Vacuum: Precision Gyro Navigation WiFi-enabled vacuums, is a staple for any modern home. This model has seriously strong suction and it comes with a HEPA filter that'll assist anyone suffering from allergies. Additionally, it also comes with a powerful battery which can clean for up to two hours and it will return to its dock when it is full.
It also comes with an option called smart mapping which uses multiple sensors to identify the areas in your home that need attention and then create a clean route around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does a good job of moving around toys that are placed on the floor or furniture legs that stick out of the ground. It also has a camera that can snap the Roomba back to the real world when it begins to drift from its intended location.
iRobot also added an additional set of rollers beneath the Roomba which do not have bristles, robotvacuummops and are therefore more likely to resist knots than earlier models. The rollers are also larger and can be placed under beds or couches with low sides. They're designed to make this model more maneuverable on different flooring types.
What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other models of this class Its main feature is the incorporation of the latest dirt detection feature that utilizes cameras to detect tiny bits of dirt. This is a great improvement over the previous version, which relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around the room and clean it at least three times from different angles.
The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. Its score on low pile carpet was impressive, robotvacuummops and it also scored a good score on mid pile too. It did a fair job of picking up pet hair, but it had a difficult time with extremely thick and long pet fur that was clumped together.
Despite these minor shortcomings, the Roomba 980 remains one of our most efficient robots, and isn't even nearly as expensive as the other top-of-the-line models in this list. It comes with many of the features you would expect from a flagship model, but it doesn't have all the fancy apps and smart home integration that you'll get from other top contenders.
The iRobot Roomba can be set up in a matter of minutes and is available for use right away. After removing the yellow bin insert and the battery pull tab from its undercarriage you simply plug it into the wall socket or one of its Home Base docking stations, click the "Clean button" and let it do the job. It will automatically return to its dock when the battery runs out or it's stuffed with debris. It also has indicator lights on the top of the device to indicate that its bin is full or it's time to recharge, or its Wi-Fi signal is lost.
