The best way to keep your home clean is with a robot vacuum. It can pick up dust, pet hair and other surface debris.
Some robots sync with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Look for models that can recharge and then resume cleaning the area they left.
1. iRobot S8
This smart robot vacuum and mop combination is a fantastic option for homes with a variety of. It comes with a fantastic navigation system that includes GPS and laser sensors. It also has a lot of features and control options that can be accessed through the app. It has a handy feature that lets you create Cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and also to create Keep Out zones in areas where you do not want it to go. As with all Roomba devices, it receives new software updates that make it more efficient over time.
It's expensive but it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has evaluated. It's equipped with a powerful battery that can sweep an entire home in less than two hours. It can switch between vacuuming and mopping with the press of one button. And, unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the dust bin after each run, this one automatically emptys itself into a larger waste container above its charging dock.
It has a wide range of other features that make it an excellent option for most homes, including intelligent obstacle avoidance, which uses both a camera and processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. It's not often tripped or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests, it was the best mop vacuum for pets at avoiding objects such as power cables. It's not as precise in detecting pet waste, or other hazards.
2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid
While the Anker-owned Eufy has earned a name for itself in budget robot vacuums, it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model that could also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that comes with a variety of modern features and is able to compete with more expensive models.
The main selling point of Eufy's this device is its laser navigation. The previous Eufy devices have created an outline of your home utilizing infrared sensors and bumping into things, but the X8's laser mapping technology is much more accurate. It also takes significantly less time to construct a comprehensive picture of your living space and also stores multiple maps, which is great for homes with multiple floors.
The X8 is a great vacuum cleaner for floors that are clean. It is able to easily throw debris through the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. Its tyres are adept at securing edges and corners despite being circular. It's not a fantastic cat litter picker, though, with our tests showing it can only remove about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.
The basic mopping mode uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. While this is a good option for spills that are not too large, you can't regulate the amount of water it is using, which will limit its effectiveness for more severe staining. It's effective at picking up pet hair. It has a higher rate of pick-up than the Roborock S7.
3. Miele RX2
Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is renowned for its quiet, efficient appliances. It has a beautiful design, superb navigation and an impressive cleaning power. However, it has some operational issues that prevent it from being ranked as the top overall smart robot vacuum.
The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping system that makes use of LIDAR to map an area as well as a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and avoiding obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room is defined and assigned, you can assign virtual no go areas and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also alter the cleaning modes, start cleaning manually, or view live feeds of the onboard cameras from the main screen.
The sensors of the RX2 work well by registering furniture and obstructions in real-time. And its sweeping and suction power are top-of-the-line cleaning up surface debris from carpets of medium pile and dust in bare floors. It's not the fastest robot on the market. Like many other robots it's not a great climber and has trouble with things like metal threshold transition strips.
A lot of people purchase a robotic vacuum for the hands-off convenience of setting a schedule in an app and then forgetting about it for weeks at an time. But it's important that a machine can do the job that's why our ZDNet staff tested and reviewed several of the most popular models to help you choose the right one for your home.
4. Shark ION
This budget robovac is a robot that looks like any other, but it has some extra features and is more efficient. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home, and uses them to avoid obstacles and navigate. It can even detect common obstacles like power cords and furniture legs in real time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor, and an infrared sensor for dropping that keeps it off steps is what makes it one of the most flexible vacuums we've tried.
It was able to climb over thick shag carpets and did not get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690-). Its navigation abilities were also impressive; its composite score in carpet and bare floors was better than the competition, and it took in 98.5 percent of the surface litter and embedded pet hair from our lab test samples.
Its controls are a bit simpler than the competitors. There's a round cleaning button on the top and you can start it from the app or via voice command with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for weekly or daily cleans, set areas that are not allowed to be cleaned, and check the history of its cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks attractive in your home. The dust bin on the rear is easy to empty and cleaning the filter is the same.
5. Eufy 11S
If you're looking for a simple, no-frills robot vacuum for a reasonable price, the Eufy 11S could be a good choice. It lacks some of the advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, found in more expensive models, but if you don't need these functions, you can save some money by purchasing this model.
The robot is easy to install and use. It doesn't require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi pairing, but it does have a remote control that allows you to select between various modes and adjust the suction level. It also lets you manually turn off the robovac on a scheduled cleaning.
During our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely effective at getting dirt and pet fur from hard floors and low-pile carpets. Its slim profile made it possible to fit under furniture with low hanging and other items that bulkier robots could not reach. It was able to go easily over thresholds of doors and move from one type of floor Continue... to another.
The 11S, like other robots will also suckup certain objects, like cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can prevent this by keeping these items off the floor and by using a cord organizer if possible. It also suggests cleaning the dustbin periodically by replacing the filters and changing or washing the brushes as required.
6. iRobot Roomba 980
The Roomba 980 is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's costly, but it's an excellent performer and is arguably the most sophisticated robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigating capabilities and environmental mapping are something to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than its competitors, including the ability to create virtual boundary markers using its mobile app. Although the application is a bit slow, and the 980 does spin a bit when rolling over cables, it's a highly efficient robot mop vacuum combo Auto Vacuum.
One thing we love about the 980 is the fact that it utilizes its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It will use this data to create a consistent, efficient cleaning path in every cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient robot vacuum cleaner than the majority of high-end robots.
