Once you've connected your smart fridge to your phone and hub, it is very easy to use. The SmartThings app lets you control your fridge from anywhere, with notifications sent to your phone whenever it's closed or opened. You can set up schedules, change the temperature and set reminders.

SmartThings was an early participant in the Home Connectivity Alliance. This alliance is working on making major home appliances made by different manufacturers interoperable. In the near future you can control your Samsung washer/dryer, Electrolux oven, and LG TV through the same application.

While it's not as widely accepted as Alexa or Google Assistant, SmartThings does have some major players on its roster, including Arlo, Nest, Belkin and Lifx. It's compatible with the Matter protocol which allows for accessories to be paired regardless of brand. The best option for most people is to combine Alexa and Google Assistant.

Family Hub

This fridge freezer is the most modern one you can find. It comes with an LCD display of 21 inches built into the door and a number of clever features. Bixby, Samsung's voice-activated assistant that allows you to access entertainment apps, create notes for your family (think of it as a large digital version of the notepad attached to the refrigerator) as well as check weather reports and much more.

The touchscreen allows you to manage recipes and food. You can add ingredients directly from an app and see what's inside your fridge using internal cameras. You can also create shopping lists on the go and monitor food items to determine when they'll expire. You can also use an app for recipes that will read out the instructions as you cook.

This is the second generation of Family Hub fridges and Samsung claims that it's spent the past year perfecting them based on customer feedback.
