Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service can provide private ADHD Titration Adhd Treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our fees for assessments include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

general-medical-council-logo.pngFollowing your assessment you will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, by video link or over the phone). Your clinician will discuss the different options for medication available. If you decide to start medication, we will offer you the opportunity to increase your dosage to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This is a process which can take several weeks and Titration Adhd treatment involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medicines until you discover the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It is essential that parents take part in the titration process and be on the lookout for their child's behavior so they can inform doctors whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will have to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You will need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to book follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist as appropriate. The appointment is typically conducted through a zoom video call. In some instances, it could be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss treatment options and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any adverse effects you might be experiencing. The cost steps for titration these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history, the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any relationship problems or mental health issues you may be experiencing. ADHD can be a genetic condition, so it's important to assess your family background to determine if you are at a higher risk of developing this disorder.

During the assessment, it is crucial to be truthful and honest with your doctor who will be using the information you provide to determine whether you are able to meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a vital step in the process since a failure to do so could result in an incorrect diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication.

If you've decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this field. If you'd like to begin treatment right away you can start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. Or you can wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

If you're not sure which one you prefer We suggest you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination as some providers have different rules regarding whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also suggest to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic, you will be sent back to them to get the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who seek an individual diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a key part of their journey. Getting an appointment with an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and time-consuming. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

One method to avoid this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose a provider that offers a private assessment and titration. This can cut down on wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient when you are working and have a hectic schedule.

Once you have been identified as a candidate for this treatment, your chosen clinician will evaluate you and determine whether or not you require to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that vary by provider but the most common ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. They will help your physician identify any factors that might suggest you should not take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are titrated, the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medications. These will be carefully trialled and monitored to find the best combination for you, taking into account any existing conditions you have. The titration procedure can be lengthy and may require multiple appointments before you are stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and amount of medication that you are taking. They could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician checking to see if you are stable on the medication, logging any side effects you've experienced, and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you're on a safe dosage. You will be required to go to an annual review and a regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

Some people may be satisfied with their treatment and therefore do not require discussing their titration process further. For those who do need further discussions about the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible that they will be passed back to the same private clinic that made their initial assessment. In this scenario the titration will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will be administered via a private prescription. This can cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
