Counter Strike New Revealed

Valve finally revealed Counter Strike New after weeks of rumors. It's an update to CS:GO that will put the game on the Source 2 engine and make some major visual changes.

It also includes sub-tick server update and responsive smoke grenades. It's got plenty of gamers who are a bit naive but it appears to be an incredible improvement for the average player.

Smokes

Counter Strike New is getting an overhaul that will completely alter the method of using smokes in the game. The new changes are being referred to as responsive smokes and will be a major game changer. Smokes will expand to fill up spaces naturally and move around different objects on the map. They will also respond to the lighting in the game, making them look better and more realistic. Smokes will also be able interact with events in the game. This will provide new opportunities for tactical play. For instance, bullets could force smoke to briefly make clear sightlines, kilowatt case revolution (Ai Db published a blog post) while Hex grenade explosions will disperse smoke to block sightlines.

Smokes will be more dynamic in the game. In previous iterations, smokes were a fixed form that was limited in the distance they could be pushed and how much vision they blocked. The new smokes will fill the space where they are located and make it harder for players to see vision when they are present. This is a major improvement that will make the game more exciting and will give both teams the same view.

Smokes can also react to the lighting, weapons, and surroundings in the world space. This makes smoke more realistic and allow players to utilize it to gain an edge over their opponents. This is especially useful in the chaotic 5v5 games that are sure to happen on every map.

Loadouts

The CS:GO players can now alter their weapon selection prior to the start of each game. The updated loadout system lets players to select the weapons that best suit their playstyle and team's strategies. The new system also adds new tactical depth to the game, because players must balance power and utility.

The CS: GO Update includes numerous other improvements and changes in addition to the new loadouts. The buy menu was completely revamped. Instead of a 64-tick update every millisecond, CSGO is now able to use sub-ticks or, as Valve calls them, "micro ticks", to communicate with servers. Each of these tiny intervals of time will be recorded by the client and transmitted to the server, which will transmit the latest game state to players. The servers will be able to tell when you fired a shot or jumped or peeked.

The video doesn't go over everything. However it does state that each piece of data sent by the client has a timestamp and that the server will gather all data in chronological order from all players before sending it back. According to the video, a CS: GO server will now be able to send more than twice the data as a 64-tick servers.

This means that even if the tick rate of the game increased to 128 Hz, it will still be able to handle your commands instantly. Micro-tick updates also decrease input lag, making sure that the server reacts to your actions without any delays or glitches.

Valve's technical improvements to the game are only the beginning. The company employs particles and dynamic smoke to improve how smoke interacts with its surroundings. It's also updating all maps with high-resolution lighting, textures, and models. Source 2 tools and features will be used to upgrade all CS cosmetics and weapons.

Maps

The next update for Counter Strike New brings new maps as well as some classics with facelifts. The updates are being tested in limited beta. The first set includes upgrade and touchstone maps that won't see any major changes in gameplay, whereas other maps have been completely rebuilt or overhauled using the new Source 2 Tools.

Overpass is one of these maps that was reworked in order to make use of the new engine's unified lighting system. One of the most controversial updates is one that was created by Helsingin Sanomat, Finland's national newspaper. The news agency has been a vocal critic of Russia's actions in Ukraine and the map takes inspiration from the war-torn city of Donetsk. The map is called de_voyna and contains numerous references to the conflict.

The developer will release a set Source 2 Tools for map makers in the future.
