Saab Key Programming
Saab cars built since about 1994 have an immobilizer system based on coded keys. A new transponder is required for addition of an extra key, and special programming. This is usually done at the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
This can be expensive. This is why you should always have a spare key on hand.
Transponder key
The transponder keys are keys equipped with an electronic chip. It sends a signal to car when it is placed in the ignition. The car is able to check whether the signal matches with the one on the key. If both signals match it will open itself and start. This is a great method to stop car theft and keep your car secure from thieves.
Transponder keys are an increasingly popular feature in automobiles, however it is important to know that they are not as secure as traditional keys made of metal. The metal component of the traditional keys can be easily cut or copied, while a transponder has an electronic chip that guards it. This chip contains an individual code that is programmed into the car's computers to identify it.
The car will recognize the Saab keyfob, and lost saab keys allow it to be turned on. But, it's only able to do this if the key fob has a non-modified chip that has been programmed to match the original. Otherwise, the car will reject the key and not start.
It is important to have an extra Saab key. This is especially true for those who live in a rural area with many car thieves. You can get a brand new key for your Saab by going to the dealership, without having to pay their expensive prices. You can get a replacement key made on the spot at a fraction of the cost you would pay at dealerships.
Wired key
saab spare key cars are usually provided with two keys. If you only own one, you should purchase an additional key as quickly as you can. This is because if the key is lost the car will require a new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This can be costly, especially if you are buying a used car.
The next step is to connect the wires for columns and rows to your microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and will require a great amount of soldering. There isn't a standard way to accomplish this, however it's important to plan out the route you'll take and solder the rows and columns. There are 22 microcontroller wires and pins that you can connect for this keyboard. It has 5 rows and 17 column.
After the columns and rows are soldered, it's the time to connect them to the key switches. Solder a diode to each key switch pin. This will shield the pins of the key switch from current and also prevent them from being shorted. A diode only allows the flow of current to be in one direction, and it has an indicator in black that indicates the direction current will flow.
Some of the tools you can find at auto parts storeslike the Autel MaxiIM IM608 PRO and IM508 -- can assist customers at the shop or DIY customers in certain cases programme replacement keys and recover lost immobilizer data, Sanabria says. The tools plug into OBD ports and guide the customer through each step making the process simpler than replacing the vehicle's computer.
Jumpstarting the battery
Most people keep a set of jumper cables in their trunks to use in an emergency, but jumping a battery on newer automobiles might not be the best choice. These vehicles are equipped with a number of computers and digital devices that communicate with one another. A surge in voltage when batteries are connected to another could cause damage to the components, rendering your car undriveable.
Connect the cables to the vehicle working. Allow it to run for two minutes. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the battery that is good. (It will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface underneath the disabled car's hood. The engine block is a good option. The black cable should not be connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery. This could cause sparks that could ignite the gasoline that is in the engine compartment.
After the cables have been connected, you can start the vehicle and let it run about five minutes. Then disconnect them in reverse. The battery in the Saab 9-3 will charge as you drive. It will take a while for it to recharge again. It's a good idea buy a spare key fob as soon as you can, because replacing the one that works requires the installation of a new computer module and special programming to convince it that your lost keys aren't attempting to steal the car.
Replacement Case
saab 900 key owners usually have only one car key, and if that is lost, they will be charged. It's expensive to add an additional key and it requires replacing the CIM or TWICE for older models. In the event of theft or any other disaster, it is best to have an extra key. Even if the key is "new" it will not work.
The majority of locksmiths won't be able to help in the event that you only have one working key and the dealer will charge for the cost of replacing the computer in your vehicle for a replacement. We can reset and reprogram the computer's EEEPROM in order to get it ready to accept a replacement key without having to replace the entire system. This could save you a lot of money. It's much cheaper instead of waiting until you loose the only key.
