Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, via video link, or over the phone). Your doctor will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to start taking medication, we can help you the option of titrating your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which could take a few weeks. It requires adjusting your child's dosage gradually until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not uncommon to have to titrate as high as three different medicines before you find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. Parents must participate in this titration process and keep a close watchful eye on their child's behavior so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing side effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will be issued an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You must attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to make follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist as necessary. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call however in some instances it might be possible to do an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options we have and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration meaning adhd program. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dosage and any side effects that you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. The pharmacy will charge you for any charges for medication.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history, the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you might be experiencing. ADHD is a genetic condition, so it's important to examine your family background to determine if you are at a greater risk of developing this disorder.

It is crucial to be honest and transparent with your doctor during this evaluation, as the information they get will be used to determine if your ADHD meets the diagnostic criteria. If you have decided that you'd like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this area. This can be done at the time of your diagnosis if you want to start treatment right away, or within two weeks if would like more time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options that are available to you.

We suggest that if you are unsure about your preferences, you speak to your GP prior to scheduling your private assessment. Certain providers have different policies on whether or not they require a GP letter. We also suggest to check if your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

For many who wish to obtain an official diagnosis of ADHD, medication is a crucial element of their treatment. The process of getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and long-winded. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to request your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can select a provider who offers an assessment that is private and the titration. This can cut down on wait time considerably and can be more convenient if you're working and have a hectic schedule.

Once you have been referred through this route your chosen doctor will assess you and decide whether or not you're required to be monitored for a dose of medication. If you are titrated, the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. The titration procedure can be lengthy and may require several extra appointments before your dose is stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and amount of medication that you are taking. They can be scheduled for monthly or quarterly. Your doctor will ensure whether you are safe with the medication, note any side effects you have experienced and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a dose that is safe. You'll also have to attend a routine health check which can include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual review.

For some individuals, it may be that they are happy with their medication and don't require an additional discussion regarding their titration. If you're required to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan further it is likely that you will be referred back to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be included in the consultation fee, and they will be given their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This may cost more than a prescription from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
