Legislation
Asbestos law is regulated at the state and federal levels in the United States. The US uses asbestos in a wide range of products even though many industrialized nations have banned asbestos. The federal government regulates the use of asbestos in these products, and also regulates asbestos litigation. State asbestos laws can vary from one state to the next although federal laws generally are uniform. These laws typically limit claims from those who have suffered from exposure to asbestos.
Asbestos occurs naturally. It is extracted from ground using open-pit mining techniques and is composed of fibrous strands.
