A lawsuit involving veterans' disabilities could be a solution for a large number of veterans disability lawyers suffering from disabilities resulting from their military service. The Department of Veterans Affairs offers benefits to veterans, including medical care and programs for veterans.
However, getting those benefits is disproportionately difficult for Black veterans, as per the latest lawsuit filed on Monday. The Yale Law School Veterans Legal Services Clinic filed the suit on behalf of Conley M. Monk Jr.
PTSD
When people experience trauma they may be prone to develop symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These symptoms could include flashbacks, nightmares or anxiety that cause anxiety. This disorder can make the sufferer to avoid places or situations that remind them of their traumatic experience. This can cause people to feel isolated and depressed. Counseling, medication and the support from family members can in treating PTSD.
A new lawsuit filed by Black veterans and a Yale law clinic has found that the Department of Veterans Affairs has repeatedly denied disability compensation claims to Black veterans for a long time. Quil Lawrence of NPR reports that a VA whistleblower informed the veterans disability lawyer that VA documents showed that Black veterans were denied benefits at a higher rate than their white counterparts.
The lawsuit was filed by Marine Vietnam veteran Conley monk and Yale's Veterans Legal Services Clinic. The lawsuit cites statistics showing that between 2001 and 2020, the rate for Black veterans who filed disability claims was rejected at 29.5 percent, as compared to 24.2 percent of white veterans.
The lawsuit seeks to recover compensation for Monk and Black veterans who were denied benefits unfairly. The lawsuit also seeks to for the VA to review tens or thousands of claims that were incorrectly denied. The lawsuit was filed in federal court this week.
Traumatic Brain Injury
TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe and symptoms may be instantly evident or develop within a few hours or veterans disability lawyer even weeks after the injury. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

The lawsuit is being filed by Yale Law School’s Veterans Legal Services Clinic. Monk was represented during his successful fight to rescind his unhonorable military discharge because of PTSD and other injuries.
The lawsuit asserts that racial discrimination within the military justice system impacted the discharge status of Black service members and VA officials should have known this when making decisions about disability compensation. The lawsuit cites research that revealed that, between 2001 and the year 2020, the average denial rate of Black veterans who applied to receive disability compensation was 29,5% as opposed to 24,2% for white veterans.
