ADD and treatment is often associated with problems at school, home or at work. The psychiatric disorder can be difficult for doctors to diagnose and treat.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common name for this psychiatric disorder. Mental health specialists diagnose ADHD using SPECT brain images.

Symptoms of classic ADD include being easily distracted, forgetful, and disorganized. Medications such as stimulants and antidepressants may help.

Limbic ADD

The most common form of ADD, also known as classic ADD or hyperactive-impulsive ADD, is characterized by inattention, a lack of organizational skills, difficulty staying on task, and trouble with memory. The scans of the brain reveal that people with this type can maintain normal activity while concentrating and at rest in the prefrontal cortex but they are less active in their cerebellum and the basal ganglia. These areas help produce dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that is responsible for motivation, tranquility and focus. This type has a short attention span, and is easily distracted by noises or other stimuli and is unable to shift focus. They also have trouble sleeping and frequently wake up at night with nightmares or anxiety. They are often overwhelmed by emotions and possess an impulsive personality, getting easily frustrated and easily angered.

Those with Ring of Fire ADD have all the core symptoms of classic ADD, but they also have difficulty shifting their attention from one thought to another thought and from task to task. They have a sensitivity to light, noise, and touch and they talk too quickly and are easily impulsive and easily triggered into mean behavior. They experience periods of depression and low energy, are easily angered and are prone to relapse into negative thoughts and guilt.

Limbic ADD can be confused with depression, however it is distinct from depression in that it has increased activity in the limbic region of the brain (the brain region that sets our emotional tone and regulates the level of happiness or sadness we are) and reduces activity in the prefrontal cortex both when we are at rest and while in concentration. It is a condition that can be treated using supplements like L-tryptophan, 5-HTP as well as saffron and inositol that increase focus, alertness and mood as well as mental clarity; amino acid GABA to calm neural activity and inhibit nerve cells from firing too much or in a erratic manner; and liver support.

It is crucial to differentiate between ADD and mood disorders like Bipolar Disorder, which also can trigger irritability, anger and low self-esteem. The difference is that ADD with Limbic Symptoms is more prone to constant frustration and irritability over time, while Bipolar Disorder symptoms tend to manifest in waves.

Overfocused ADD

Over-focused ADD sufferers often get stuck in negative thoughts and behaviors that trigger excessive worrying. This is due to rigid behavior that is similar to those suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). They are often frightened emotionally when required to shift their attention from one thing to another and react with a threatening or hostile behavior.

They are often irritable and their irritability may be caused by a low-grade chronic sadness or negative mood. They may also struggle with memory problems, experience severe anger, and may have a short fuse.

People with hyperfocused ADD might be rigid when it comes to changing tasks and may become absorbed in their hobbies or work. They are more likely to miss deadlines at work, and forgetting appointments at home and they might not finish tasks or school assignments. They can also be stubborn and resentful if they are punished or reprimanded by their teachers or parents.

Children with overfocused ADD can be angry and obstinate, and they may throw tantrums if their needs are not being recognized. They can be obsessive about specific activities, toys, and video games. They may also have trouble communicating their feelings and are extremely sensitive to criticism or rejection.

This type of ADD is difficult to identify, particularly in children. The majority of children don't understand that their problem is caused by their inability to switch their focus between different things. It's important to consult an expert as these children are more likely to have their ADD misdiagnosed. This type of ADD is treatable with dietary modifications, supplements, and cognitive-behavioral therapies. This type of ADD is difficult to treat, even with stimulant medication as it can cause the intensity of hyperactivity. Functional neuroimaging is sometimes used to differentiate the seven distinct types of ADD and is especially useful for diagnosing hyperfocused ADD.

Anxious ADD

Many people with ADD have high levels of anxiety. This is a comorbidity (having more than one disorder simultaneously) is common and affects the majority of people suffering from ADD/ADHD. Stress and anxiety can mimic the symptoms of ADD/ADHD. Incorrect diagnosis can lead to unsuitable treatment and anger.

Anxious ADD can lead to problems at school, work, and social situations. This kind of ADD can lead to underachievement and feelings of inadequacy. People with anxious ADD are hesitant to take on difficult tasks or events because they fear that they won't be successful.

They are also afraid of being judged or critiqued. They are afraid of being judged or criticised. others. In some instances, people are so stressed and anxious that they experience panic attacks. These can be severe and life-threatening, causing sweating, a pounding heart and breathing problems. Anxious ADD differs from Classic ADD because it has increased activity in the Basal ganglia and the amygdala. These areas are instinctive and place a high value on security. This causes a shutdown of PFC and can make it difficult for from this source those with this condition to focus.

If someone with ADD/ADHD has anxiety their symptoms are generally more difficult to treat than those of someone who doesn't have anxiety. This is because treatment protocols for ADD/ADHD that are designed to stimulate the brain may actually increase anxiety among people with anxiety ADD due to a decrease in activity in their PFC.

Amen Clinic psychiatrists employ functional neuroimaging techniques like SPECT scans to identify the areas of the brain where high and/or lower levels of activity are present. This helps them distinguish between the seven types and determine the best treatment.

A psychiatrist will take a complete medical record and conduct a physical exam to determine if the patient suffers from the condition of ADD/ADHD. The doctor might also inquire about the patient's mood and behavior to assess the patient's overall functioning. Sometimes, medications are used to treat ADD/ADHD but in most cases, patients require other treatments for adhd in adults too, including cognitive behavioral therapy, nutrition and exercise, sleep strategies, desensitization, and other techniques for relaxation. This can increase their ability to manage their emotions and improve their overall function.

Temporal Lobe ADD

This kind of ADD affects the temporal lobe within the brain, which is responsible both for mood and memory. People suffering from this type of ADD struggle to retain and learn and experience mood swings and have intense anger or aggression issues. They also often suffer from a variety of sensory issues, such as experiencing a sense of deja vu or seeing shadows or objects change shapes and hearing sounds that other people can't hear. They are irritable, sensitive and easily overstimulated.

This kind of ADD has the same symptoms as Classic ADD. These include low attention spans and disorganization. It also has difficulty in staying focused or following instructions. However, this type of ADD doesn't cause impulsivity or hyperactivity. This kind of ADD is more prevalent in females. People suffering from this type of ADD may suffer from low levels of dopamine, a neurotransmitter, which contributes to their feelings of depression and poor self-regulation. The symptoms include insomnia, anger and anxiety.

In this case QEEG scans of ADD brain reveal that people with over-focused ADD are experiencing difficulties shifting gears. They are experiencing normal activity in the anterior cingulate region (the brain's "gearshifter"). They are not able to move from one task or thought to another, and become stuck in negative thinking patterns and behaviours.

This is a form of ADD that is characterized by people who are extremely motivated and hardworking but are unable to concentrate on their tasks. They can get lost in their schoolwork, and their teachers or parents are often tired or embarrassed by their behavior. They may have a hard relationship because they can be unpredictable or reactive and have difficulty managing multiple tasks or working with others. In some cases they may be depressed or anxious. They are susceptible to panic attacks and susceptible to hallucinations. Medications are typically not advised for this kind of ADD, because it doesn't treat the root of the symptoms.
