Titration
A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a complete medical history, as well as an assessment using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.
After your examination You will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link, or over the phone). Your physician will explain to you what medication options are available and, if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.
This process could take several weeks, and requires gradually altering your child's medication until the appropriate balance is reached. It's not uncommon to to titrate up to three different medicines until you discover the one that best suits your child's ADHD. Parents must take part in this process of titration and keep an eye on their child's behaviour to let the doctor know whether the medication is working or causing side effects.
If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You must attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.
Follow-up appointments
After the assessment is completed you will be able to make follow up appointments with the psychiatrist as necessary. Usually the appointment will take place on zoom video call but in certain circumstances it might be possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).
We will then go over the options for treatment and then decide on an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a review of your medication dose and a discussion around any negative side effects you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration consultations is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.
The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you may be experiencing. This is due to the fact that ADHD is an inheritable condition, and it is crucial that we assess any family history that might indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.
It is crucial that you are honest and transparent with your doctor ADHD Titration during this evaluation, as the information they get will be used to determine whether your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step in the process since a failure to do so could result in an inaccurate diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.
If you decide to be treated for ADHD we'll schedule an appointment for a follow-up visit with a psychiatrist who specializes in this area. If you'd like to begin treatment immediately you can start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and the options available to you.
We suggest that if are unsure of your preferences, you talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Certain providers have different guidelines regarding whether or not they require an GP letter. We also suggest that you check whether your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement', which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.
