Private ADHD Titration

There is a current national shortage of medications that treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

Our service is able to offer private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This includes medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and adhd titration private questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be advised whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, by video link, or over the phone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and if you decide to begin taking medication, we will offer to titrate dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which could take a few weeks, and involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the appropriate balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to need to adjust two or three medicines before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is crucial that parents are involved in the titration and be aware of their child's behavior so that they can inform doctors whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with a private prescription which you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medications. This includes the measurement of pulse and blood pressure. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete and you are satisfied, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted via zoom video call. However, in certain circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

We will then discuss the options for treatment and then decide on a bespoke, individualised ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dose and any adverse effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration appointments is PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history and the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you might be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, so it's important to examine your family background to determine if you are at chance of developing this disorder.

During this assessment it is essential that you are truthful and open with the doctor who will use the information you provide to determine whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial part of the process, since a failure to do so could result in an inaccurate diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you decide to receive treatment for ADHD We'll set up an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this field. If you want to start treatment right away you can start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

We suggest that if you are unsure about your preferences, talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Certain providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require an GP letter. Find out if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic for prescriptions for medication.

Medication

Medication is a key element of the process for many who are looking for an official ADHD diagnosis. It isn't always easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Inquiring your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose a provider that offers a private assessment and titration service. This can reduce your wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient when you are working and have a full schedule.

If you are recommended, your physician will evaluate your condition to determine if you need medication titration adhd. You'll have to complete forms that are different for each provider however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting questionnaires and medical histories dating to your childhood and into adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor to determine if there are circumstances that indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications, in the event that they've been prescribed.

If you are being titrated the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medications. These will be carefully tested and monitored to find the right combination for you. The titration process may be lengthy and may need some additional appointments before you're able to stay on your dosage.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and amount of medication you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician checking that you are taking the correct medication, logging any side effects you have had and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you're on a safe dosage. You will be required to attend an annual health check-up and regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

Some people may be satisfied with their treatment and do not have to discuss their titration further. However, for those who do need further discussions about the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible to be passed back to the private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in their consultation fee and they will receive their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). It could cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
