Keyless Entry
Many newer vehicles and some older models have keyless entry, a feature that lets you unlock your car without having touch the door handle or insert a key. Some of the most advanced models include remote keyless ignition (RKI) which allows you to start your engine and activate ten other electronic accessories.
These systems use radio signals emitted from your vehicle. These signals are then received by a receiver in the key fob. The key fob will send an indication when you press the handle button or put your hand on it. The signal is received by the receiver of the vehicle.
Some of the most advanced car keyless entry systems are paired with smart technology, which allows you to control them using a mobile app or a cloud-based management system. This allows you to better manage them if you have to allow guests or maintenance personnel access to your building or vehicles.
While these systems are incredibly convenient, they do come with their own drawbacks. Some of the most serious problems are related to security. If your key is lost within the car, while you are inside it will not be able to transmit the signal and you won't have the ability to open the door or start the car. Numerous manufacturers have systems that warn you when the key is running out, but they are not foolproof.
Transponder Keys
One of the most popular types of car keys are transponder key (also known as chip keys) that work with microchips embedded in the plastic head of your car key. The microchip transmits a weak signal to the car's receiver that only matches the serial number encoded into it by the manufacturer. This prevents unauthorised duplicate keys so that only you have the ability to start your car.
They are more difficult to duplicate and less likely to be stolen. They also cost more than keys made of flat metal however, if you have an experienced locksmith who knows how to program them for your specific vehicle, they can save you money in the end.
These keys aren't only secure, but they can also easily be damaged by children. They shouldn't be left out without being in a secure place where they are not accessible to small hands. Throwing them in water can be dangerous. Some of them also require batteries, which makes them dangerous to keep around in the home.
A licensed locksmith will usually duplicate keys and reprogram them for you. This can be done for a fraction of what you'd pay at a dealership and it's also more convenient.
Keys that fold Keys
Certain vehicles can use keys that fold. They're essentially a traditional key, but with the metal folding into the body of plastic to make it more compact and easy to keep in your purse or on your key chain. These keys are becoming more sought-after, particularly because they are less likely than other keys to be damaged by heat or water. They are also more difficult to clone and therefore more secure as compared to other types of car keys.
They're not the most convenient devices to use, but they could work in a pinch if you lose your regular car key. They're also less expensive to replace than a transponder key and are a great choice for people who want to save money on their car's security features.
Silca-Proximity Remote Car Keys can be made for a variety of models. These are ready to program with the PCB and transponder provided. They can be programmed using advanced diagnostics equipment and are individually packed in a clamshell made of plastic for easy identification and hook display.

Mechanical Keys
Modern cars do not use mechanical keys. Instead, they employ an RFID chip that is embedded into keys to identify it and communicate with the system of the car to start and operate. The mechanical key can unlock the doors, and the fuel cap. However should it not be programmed to communicate with your car it will not start.
The system makes use of LF (low-frequency of 125 kHz) transmitting antennas both inside and outside of the vehicle. These antennas communicate with the smart keys. The key transmits its ID to the car if it's close enough to activate an antenna. The PASE module checks the key's identity, then shuts off the immobilizer and allows the vehicle to start.
A backup mechanical method is also available in the event that the battery on the smart key's smart key goes down or fails. Many manufacturers cover the emergency mechanical blade behind an enclosure for aesthetic reasons.
