A Walking Machine Desk Can Improve Your Work Productivity

Walking into your workday is a great way to add exercise to your day without sacrificing time. Interspersing walking into your workday will also increase productivity.

Poltrock's encourages exercise through games, walking meetings, and treadmill desks. They've observed that employees have increased levels of energy and more productive work days.

Health Benefits

Doctors recommend at minimum 10,000 steps a day to keep your body healthy However, many people are unable to make time for exercise during their workday. You can achieve your fitness goals using a treadmill desk. Some treadmills are designed to fit under desks, while others are designed to be a workstation that allows you to sit while walking.

Certain studies have shown that using treadmill desks improves health outcomes, such as weight loss, and lower cholesterol and triglycerides. Standing desks have also been proven to reduce the risk of sitting for long periods of time.

You can feel more productive and enthusiastic at work by using treadmill desks, but you should be cautious not to overdo it. If you sit on a treadmill at your desk for too long, you may suffer from back, neck or shoulder pain. Avoid doing repetitive tasks like typing while walking.

Raegan Poltrock works as a client strategy assistant at the advertising agency Attentive. She uses a treadmill and feels more energetic throughout the day. She started using the desk about a year ago, and has since walked 10 to 20 miles per day on her treadmill, ranging between two and four hours. She says that her work has improved because of her improved energy levels. A recent study by Levine and his team at the Minneapolis-based consulting firm Salo revealed similar results. They studied 18 employees rotating between a treadmill desk for six months, walking approximately three hours each day. They found that cholesterol levels decreased and employees were more productive to those who worked at traditional desks.
