The history of raw rubber dates back to ancient civilizations, where it was first discovered and utilized by indigenous peoples in South America. The advent of the rubber industry in the 19th century revolutionized manufacturing and transportation. The vulcanization process, invented by Charles Goodyear, significantly enhanced rubber's durability, making it a cornerstone of the industrial revolution.

Types of Raw Rubber
Natural Rubber
Natural rubber, primarily derived from the latex of the Hevea brasiliensis tree, is renowned for its superior elasticity and tensile strength. It is harvested through a process known as tapping, where incisions are made in the bark of the tree to collect the milky latex sap. The coagulated latex is rolled into sheets and smoked or air-dried to produce raw rubber sheets, known as ribbed smoked sheets (RSS). This process requires careful management to ensure the sustainability and health of the rubber trees.

Synthetic rubber production involves the polymerization of monomers derived from petroleum.
